A Halsey Affair: Brooklyn to Brooklyn Preview

Jengo's Playhouse, Downtown Wilmington

$ 0 – 58.93

Overview

Join us for an evening of resilience and remembrance as we honor the enduring legacy of the Halsey Family and pay tribute to those affected by the 1898 Wilmington Massacre and coup d'état. This pivotal event in American history saw the violent overthrow of a legitimately elected biracial government, resulting in the deaths of numerous Black residents and the destruction of Black-owned businesses. Among the victims was Joshua Halsey, a devoted husband and father, who was tragically killed during the massacre. His story, along with those of many others, serves as a poignant reminder of the struggles faced and the strength exhibited by the African American community during that era.

Engage directly with members of the Halsey Family as they share their personal narratives, bringing history to life through their own words. Their testimonies offer a unique and intimate perspective on the events of 1898, emphasizing the importance of preserving and acknowledging our collective history. As we come together to honor the Halsey Legacy, we ensure that when we speak, OURstory lives on, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of our shared past.
