Closing the Gap: Professional Development Workshop for Educators

March 19, 4-6 PM

FREE for all educators in Bladen, Brunswick, Columbus, Duplin, New Hanover, Pender, Onslow, and Sampson counties. Registration Required

Spend a fun and enlightening evening with CAM during an exclusive professional development session!

Energize your teaching with two arts-integrated lessons led by teaching artists Shawna Kenney and Kathy Sohar, PhD. Take away STEAM ideas for your classroom inspired by From Mountains to Sea, an exhibition that celebrates our relationship to the natural world.

Design your Personal Viewfinder to explore the exhibition and discover the secrets in a work of art that will inspire your special narrative. As a lifelong writer, Shawna’s mission is to help students of all kinds to understand the value of creative expression and to feel empowered by their own truth-telling.

Learn to Incorporate Shadow Puppetry into your classroom, exploring geometry, engineering, and storytelling as you animate science and history concepts with paper and light. Kathy brings her decades of experience and teaching, which began with her studies in the Puppet Arts Theater Program at the University of Connecticut.

These workshops are designed to teach educators how to use the arts to teach core curriculum and help close the achievement gap through active learning strategies that engage all learners.

Come for inspiration, resources, and professional connections to support your teaching.

Free for all educators in Bladen, Brunswick, Columbus, Duplin, New Hanover, Pender, Onslow, and Sampson counties. Participating educators will receive a certificate of completion to submit to their respective counties for CEU credit consideration.
