Overview

Learn and observe how banding works for tiny hummingbirds! Naturalist Susan Campbell and her team from the NC Hummingbird Research Program will demonstrate the process of hummingbird banding, a critical component of hummingbird research. Get an up close look at some of our most energetic and charismatic birds!

Learn about the Ruby-throated Hummingbird and how the NC Hummingbird Research team traps and handles the birds, as well as how they apply their tiny USFWS bands to collect data.

Susan Campbell will discuss activities of hummingbirds in the wild, share research information gained to-date, and answer your questions about hummingbirds.

Discussion about important aspects of caring for hummingbirds on your property: feeder selection, landscaping and other special considerations for attracting hummingbirds to your yard.
