Overview
Continuing Wilmington Water Tours’ commemoration of the United State’s 250th anniversary, join Dr. Chris E. Fonvielle Jr., Professor Emeritus in the Dept. of History at UNCW continues discussing the decline of the British Empire after the French and Indian War in 1763 and the rise of a great nation by 1887. This cruise covers an in-depth discussion about Great Britain’s grand plan for a military campaign against the Southern colonies by way of the Cape Fear River in 1776; and the decisive Battle of Moore’s Creek Bridge based on Dr. Fonvielle’s latest research and forthcoming book. Did you know that, as a result of the battle, North Carolina put in writing its commitment to independence, the first of any of the thirteen colonies? Whether you’re a lifelong history buff or just curious about the forces that shaped this region, this is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to learn while enjoying a relaxing, scenic cruise. Topics rotate monthly, so every trip offers a new perspective on Wilmington’s place in American history. The three cruises will be March 22, April 26, and May 24. Our boat, The Wilmington, has comfortable seating for up to 49 passengers, refreshments for all ages at the bar and a restroom on board. This is a 90 minute cruise $45 adults, $25 children. Boarding is 15 minutes prior to departure.
