Overview
In celebration of Black History Month and our upcoming special exhibition, Dalí & the Impressionists: Monet, Renoir, Degas & More, this month’s talk will feature Dr. Dallas Jackson as he explores how the Impressionist movement provided the foundation that many artists, including himself, use to develop their technical skills. He will explicate how artist like the Florida Highwaymen (1950s) captured their environments through “en plein air” painting and how the Florida Highwaymen prevailed through racial injustice to create venues for their artwork. In 1982, Dr. Jackson began his early years of studying art at The Dalí Museum. Much like Salvador Dalí, Dr. Jackson’s earlier works were landscapes of his environment with color applications that provided aerial perspective. His recent series evolved to narratives of economic despair, migration and gentrification.
